TED Talk – Learning from Those You Disagree With

Why It’s Worth Listening to People you Disagree With

What do we do with people we disagree with?

This TED Talk from Zachary Wood tells of the importance of not silencing those with whom we have a disagreement.

Rather we should listen to them. our opinion may not change, but more often than not we will have a deeper understanding of their viewpoint as well as our own.

Tuning out opposing viewpoints doesn’t make them go away,
Zachary R. Wood, TED2018

It is no secret that disagreements between people today is seen and heard more than it has ever been in the history of the human race.

Social media and the 24-hour news cycle enhances the disagreements that have always been there.

If you say something I disagree with, I can immediate go to Facebook or Twitter and denounce you, vilify you, and let the world know I disagree with you.

Zachary Wood argues that you will gain a deeper understanding by listening instead.

Each week, I try to post at least two TED talks on the True Men Blog in order to broaden my understanding of the people of this world.
