By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.
1 John 3:16
New Every Morning
For a Monday, it sure was a beautiful morning!
I woke up and headed outside, about sunrise, to take some pictures of the beautiful start to the day!
And it is days like this that remind me of the promise in Lamentations 3:22-23
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
Each new day begins with a promise. At least, it does for me.
What is past is prologue, I heard just this morning. I believe that is true many times. And with the new day, a new possibility is awaiting me.
Jesus Renews Us
It was very early in the morning, before dawn even, that Jesus Christ rose from the grave with the promise that we, too, will rise from the grave one day.
He shed his blood on the cross to forgive all our sins. He died and was buried in a borrowed tomb – because he wouldn’t need it all that long!
His resurrection on Easter Sunday means that our lives have renewal. And when we are baptized, we are re-born, renewed, and regenerated into the people that God created us to be!
Being God’s People
Nearly each sunrise – like this morning’s – I’m reminded that I am God’s child. He saved me from sin and death out of his great love for me.
For a reason.
The sun rises each morning for a reason – if only to remind me (and everyone else) of that fact.
Being God’s people is an incredible blessing.
But it is also a daunting vocation. For God calls us to share the Gospel of his Son, Jesus, with everyone we will meet each day.
But here’s another indication of how much God loves us – he gives us the power of his Holy Spirit to carry out his calling!
Power Renewed Each Sunrise
As the sunrise each morning gives warmth to the earth, so the power of the Holy Spirit strengthens and emboldens the child of God.
The Holy Spirit uses Word and Sacrament to renew our energy to do God’s will.
This is what I’m reminded of when I see the first rays of sunrise.
And I thank God that he loves me, saved me, and gives me purpose – to share the love of God with people.
Heavenly Father, I praise you for each sunrise. I thank you for saving me for the sake of your Son’s death and resurrection. I pray that your Holy Spirit will renew my love for you each morning, so I may share your love each day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
