When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer.Psalm 32: 3-4
I had a little refrigerator in my room while at seminary. It mostly held something to drink – juice, pop, that kind of stuff. Every now and then I would put sandwich meat, or a slice or two of pizza. Pop or juice will last quite a while. A slice of pizza only lasts a couple of days at the most. I can tell you for a fact that a slice of pizza will not last two months. My refrigerator tried valiantly to keep that slice of pizza fresh, but I should have eaten it much, much sooner.
If you keep your sins bottled up inside, you can be like that slice of pizza after two months. This Psalm verse is very graphic in describing what happens when we do not confess our sins or let go of them. “Wasted away,” “groaning,” “strength sapped.” Spiritual and emotionally, we won’t last long if we do not get rid of our sins. And there is only one way to get rid of them.
Getting Rid of Them
Confess them to God. He will forgive us each and every time for the sake of Jesus’ death on the cross. This will result in becoming clean and fresh. Your relationship with God will be strengthened and renewed. Having a relationship with God that is strengthened and renewed will strengthen and renew all of our other relationships!
Heavenly Father, we confess that we are sinful and unclean. Clean us of our sins for the sake of Jesus Christ. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
