Soundtrack as a Hiding Place

You are my hiding place; You will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.

Your Soundtrack

I always thought that I should have a “soundtrack” to my life. In a sense, I guess I do. Maybe you do, too. Think of a favorite song or hymn. Got one? Now, does a special time in your life come to mind? If so, you’ve got a “soundtrack”!

Your Journey

As you journey through your life, and as you journey through Lent, you may find that you need “hiding” places. These can be places where you can tap into God’s protection and help. Many people have said that music can play an important role in this protection and help. God has His own “songs of deliverance” as He hides and protects us. A long time ago, people felt the need for these hiding places. The result was the establishment of monasteries and nunneries. There are still places like this today. But this isn’t for everyone. God created us to be “people persons” to some extent or another. We need times of retreat and solitude, but there are also times when we need to be among other people. Sometimes, music is best experienced alone. But there are other times when it is best to share music with other people.

Psalms – the Lenten Journey Soundtrack

Our Lenten journey can be, in part, defined by the music we hear and sing. Special hymns or songs that we only sing at this time of year. These can be our “songs of deliverance” as God speaks to us through the songwriters and words on the page. The Bible is full of “songs.” The Book of Psalms is the best place to find the songs through which God speaks to our hearts. There is a Psalm for every situation. Whatever situation you find yourself in right now, there is a Psalm – a song of God – that can speak to that situation! Talk with a pastor or other trusted Christian friend to help you find that Psalm.

Application

Pick your favorite hymn and use the words as a closing prayer this evening.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I need Your help more than ever as I journey through this Lenten season. Please forgive me all my sins for the sake of Jesus. Sing Your “song of deliverance” as I seek a hiding place in Your word. In Jesus’ name, amen.
