My guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear. My wounds fester and are loathsome because of my sinful folly.Psalm 38:4-5
Recently an ad campaign on TV showed people that made excuses for their using drugs. One excuse used was “I’m not hurting anyone but myself.” Then a picture of the South Tower of the World Trade Center coming down was seen. The point of the ad was that buying illegal drugs helps fund terrorism.
Other People See
When we sin, we hurt ourselves. It may not be noticeable at first, but an unconfessed sin becomes a burden for us to carry. And other people notice. I remember a movie where the hero was injured but he didn’t noticed it until someone else pointed it out to him. Just as a gaping wound is noticeable, so is the burden of our sin.
We Are Hurting Someone Else
Even if we think we are not hurting anyone but ourselves by our sin, we are hurting someone else – God. It hurts God when we sin. So much that He sent Jesus to pay the price for our sin so that sin would no longer hurt us.
Unloading the Unbearable
But again, Jesus died to forgive our sins. If you are feeling overwhelmed by guilt, burdened with a festering and loathsome wound, confess your sin to God and receive the forgiveness won by Jesus Christ on the cross. That confession unloads the unbearable. It frees from the burden. You will be let loose from the bondage of your sin by the forgiveness of Jesus Christ.
Burdened by a sin? Confess it to God today. If you so desire, talk to your pastor. A pastor can provide you with the assurance of Jesus’ forgiveness and has taken a vow not to divulge your sin to anyone else.
Heavenly Father, thank You for taking the burden of my sin and placing it on Jesus. Free me from my wounds and give me the forgiveness Jesus’ bought for me on the cross. In His name I pray, amen. © 2019 True Men Ministries
