It Gets to Me

Be merciful to me, LORD, for I am faint; O LORD, heal me, for my bones are in agony.

“Are we there yet?”

Every little kid says this whenever they are in a car on a trip that takes them out of town. It’s a running gag to many people. It was to me, until last year. My oldest son was five, talking really well. We were on a trip to see his grandmother and he let out with the “running gag” question fifteen minutes into the trip!

Our journey through the season of Lent has been going on for over a month.

“Are we there yet?”

Like an Explorer

Like an explorer trudging through a desert, stumbling, falling, we might be so far into this journey of Lent that we are crying out to God for mercy.

We’ve been reading about how sinful we are. In church, you may have heard about how Jesus took your sins and died on the cross. Are we really that bad that Jesus had to die? Yes, as a matter of fact, we are! Living with that thought, day in and day out, can “get to you.” With two weeks of Lent left, we’re weary and we need God’s healing in our bones. But don’t give up yet! We’re almost there! Hang in there; God is with us even now with healing for our weary bones!

Application

Think back to a time when you were totally exhausted from a work out of some kind. Now think about how Jesus must have felt with no sleep, little to eat, and carrying the sins of the whole world.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, my sins make me weary. For the sake of Jesus, please forgive me and heal me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
