This is part 2 of a devotional about time and everlasting life.

What Is Eternal Life?

Now, you may be asking the question, “what, then, is eternal life.” I can only tell you what Jesus said, “This is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.”(John 17:3)

That’s it. But because Jesus said, I believe it. And that’s good enough for me.

Are you sure that you have eternal life?

Finally, let me ask you this, are you sure that you have eternal life?

Even as I now believe in Christ my Savior, I also know that I have been chosen to eternal life out of pure grace in Christ without any merit of my own and that no one can pluck me out of His hand (eternal election of grace or predestination).

The short answer is, “yes.”

Yes, you can be sure of eternal life. How? Because you have grace! Christ was born, lived, died, rose and ascended so that you – and I and all the world – could live forever in paradise.

In fact, God chose you to live forever. That is what is meant by “eternal election of grace” or “predestination.”

Now, don’t go thinking that because God chose you to live forever, He chose others to not live forever.

No. Those who go to eternal damnation choose on their own to go there. God doesn’t choose that for them.

No one can pluck you out of God’s hand. But you can choose to jump out on your own.

I pray you will not. And that’s why I’m here. That’s why any pastor is here – to encourage you, help you, and walk alongside you so that you do not jump out of God’s hand.

Eternal life is yours, now! I pray you will live in God’s grace and glory, now. For Jesus’ sake. Amen.

Prayer

O God, Your eternal love is given to us in and through Jesus Christ. I pray that we will live powerfully in that love here and now as we await Your summons to paradise, where we will live with You forever. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
