“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions.Joel 2:28
Never Too Old to Dream
I’ve heard it said that dreams are for the young. That there comes a time when you have to stop dreaming and start doing what you can to support yourself and your family.
I guess there’s some truth to that – at least the second part. But it has been my experience that you are never too old to dream!
Wayne had a dream. He had spent twenty years in the corporate world. He made pretty decent money. He had a solid marriage and his family was considered “normal” – which was pretty abnormal by many today.
But he had a dream of doing something else. Wayne had a dream of doing something more.
So after long talks with his wife and adult children, Wayne left the corporate world, enrolled in a seminary and became a preacher.
Wayne’s dream was to change the world with the Gospel. And he had this dream when he was in his early forties!
You are never too old to dream!
But the older you get the more fear you might have. That’s understandable. So many questions come with dreams.
“Will I be able to make a living?”
“Will my family be okay?”
“Is this really what I’m supposed to be doing?
My friend Jeff has an answer to all of this, “Fear not!”
When your dream comes from God, and you can verify that it has come from God, the fears can be dealt with.
Give up those fears to God. He’s big enough to handle them!
Which brings to mind another aspect of dreaming.
Dream Big Because We Have a Big God!
Let your dreams get big! Because you have a big God!
You can change the world! Because it is really God changing the world through you! You can have big, hairy, audacious dreams! Because the dreams that come from God come from the Creator of the entire universe!
But what if you are still feeling a little scared? Then share your dream with one or two others. Dream together!
Again, my friend Jeff reminds us that God puts people in our lives to help us find our dream and live our dream!
God never meant for any of us to live – and dream – alone. Adam had Eve. Moses had Joshua. David had Jonathan. Jesus had Peter, James, and John (and the other disciples). Paul had Barnabas, then Silas, then Timothy.
Not only will God give you a dream. He will give you people to dream with!
Finally, its time to put the dream into play. It’s time to execute. You can find your dream. You can dream together. But eventually a dream has to become reality!
That’s what God intends – for you to actually live your dream!

Heavenly Father, give me a dream. Help me see what You want for my life. Bring others into my life to dream with me. Then remove all my fears so my dream can become reality. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
