While the Emmaus disciples were going in the wrong direction of hopelessness and despair, Jesus uses his own GPS – God’s Provided Scriptures – to let them know that they needed to change direction.
As a gender, men typically don’t like to stop to ask directions, admit that we are going in the wrong direction (“we’re just taking the scenic route”), or – worst of all – turn around!
Even though we were forgiven of all our sins by Jesus who died on the cross 2000 years ago, the forgiveness of sins is as close as a word, as close as a wafer and cup of wine, as close as water in a font.
We sin against God. In repentance we say, “I’m sorry.” And God says to us, “I forgive you.” Such powerful words!
Satan doesn’t want the Church to succeed. He hates God. And he hates everything that has to do with God.
The top of that list is the Church. And in his hatred of the Church, he tries to convince you – the Church – to not tell people that Jesus loves them and died to forgive their sins.
Through Jesus’ death and resurrection we are given new life!
